Pumacy presents lean approach for measuring innovation capability at ISPIM conference 2011

At this year’s annual conference of the International Society for Professional Innovation Management (ISPIM) Pumacy Technologies AG presents a lean approach for measuring the innovation capability of companies.

At the annual conference of the International Society for Professional Innovation Management (ISPIM) Pumacy Technologies AG presents a lean approach for measuring the innovation capability of companies. This year’s conference takes place in Hamburg form 12 to 15 June 2011.

Integrated Innovation Maturity Model for Lean Assessment of Innovation Capability (I²MM) is the title of Pumacy’s presentation which shows a new maturity model for measuring a company’s individual innovation capability following lean principles. The evaluation is based on the innovation process and its flexibility and adaptability to changing market conditions.

The Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) serves as the foundation for the current maturity model, explicitly considering the early phases of an innovation process. The I²MM is organised into five maturity levels and four process areas: (1) idea generation and product development, (2) innovation management, (3) requirements engineering, and (4) quality management.

Dr. Tobias Müller-Prothmann, division manager innovation management at Pumacy, describes the benefits of the maturity model: “I²MM is based on the idea of a lean approach within innovation management. Our model requires minimum effort and provides maximum benefit. It provides fast information on the innovation capability of a company and shows its strengths and weaknesses. With I²MM innovation activities are systematically increased in quality and quantity and can be traced back continuously. Large as well as small and medium-sized enterprises will benefit from our approach.”

The I²MM maturity model was developed by Pumacy Technologies AG within the research project ISYPROM (http://www.isyprom.de). The research project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) as part of the framework concept “Research for Tomorrow’s Production” under reference number 02PC105x. The project is coordinated by the Project Management Agency Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe (PTKA). Members of the consortium are Airbus Deutschland, ESG and Knorr-Bremse – as potential user of the project results – and research institutes such as Fraunhofer IPK and the University of Kassel which contribute to the project with their scientific activities.

ISPIM is the leading international conference for innovation management professionals. The annual event is organised by the Society for Professional Innovation Management (http://www.ispim.org). The 2011 theme is “Sustainability of Innovation – Innovation Management Challenges“.
